Extractions
At The Brace, we always try to complete your treatment without extractions if possible. If you do need tooth extractions, whether for treatment or because you need your wisdom teeth out, you’ll be glad to know that our team includes a talented dental surgeon.
Why do wisdom teeth
need to be removed?
Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars to emerge and often lack adequate space to properly come in, unlike the rest of your teeth. This can lead to issues such as pain, swelling, infection, inflammation of the surrounding gum tissue, or even decay.
Wisdom teeth can sometimes harm adjacent teeth, potentially causing decay in those areas as well. If this occurs, removing the wisdom teeth may be necessary to safeguard your oral health, gums and surrounding teeth.

How long does it take to remove a wisdom tooth?
Wisdom tooth extraction usually takes between 10 to 30 minutes depending on the position of the tooth. We will numb the area with local anaesthetic so you will feel comfortable whilst the wisdom tooth is removed.

Is there much pain or
swelling after wisdom tooth removal?
You may experience some discomfort and swelling after extraction, both on the inside and outside of your mouth. Swelling may increase for the first few days, but then it will subside.
Your soreness should go away after the first couple weeks. To help with any discomfort, we recommend eating a soft diet for several days, cleaning the area as much as possible, and rinsing your mouth with a mouthwash or warm salt water.

What is a coronectomy?
A coronectomy might be recommended if the nerve is very close to the wisdom tooth. This technique reduces the risk of nerve damage by removing only the top portion of the wisdom tooth while leaving some of the roots in place.
