An Introduction to Orthodontics will be run by Dr Murtuza Hasnaini at The Brace London. The course will allow general dentists to offer basic orthodontic treatments to their patients using traditional metal braces as well as aesthetic appliances. The course will run one day every other month for 12 months and will include lectures and practical learning. Case Study – combination treatment with Invisalign® and fixed ceramic braces

Adeel came to us concerned about the spacing of his upper front teeth. Adeel presented with a Class I malocclusion, associated with spacing and a palatally impacted upper left canine. He had a retained deciduous upper left canine in place. Adeel really wanted invisible braces and ideally Invisalign. Because of the position of his upper left canine it was not possible to carry out his entire treatment with Invisalign so we started with removing his retained deciduous tooth and a sectional fixed tooth coloured brace in the upper left quadrant only. The aim of this was only to bring the canine into a more buccal position. We were not aiming for full alignment with the fixed brace. This phase of treatment took 3-4 months and at this point we removed the fixed brace and moved to Invisalign for the rest of his treatment.

Adeel was thrilled with the result and his video can be found on our Videos page.

“We found the lunch and learn informative, educational and enjoyable. It gave us the knowledge to provide our patients with informed decision making. It was nice to be able to meet Murtuza, who was charming. It’s a good idea to meet with the specialist to whom we shall be referring to. We are sure the session will be beneficial to both practises. The CPD and lunch were an added bonus.”

What Orthodontics can do for your patients
Orthodontics is traditionally used to correct malocclusions, crooked or crowded teeth, but there are other dental problems where it can be very useful. Here are some examples of situations where you may want to consider orthodontics for your patients.
Orthodontics can be used to level uneven gingival margins prior to your restorative work
Teeth with margins below the gingival level can be extruded orthodontically, allowing placement of your restorations
Orthodontics can be used to create space in the occlusion for you to restore worn teeth
Orthodontics can be used to create the correct amount of space for you to place implants or bridges
Extraction of teeth can lead to bone resorption and an aesthetically poor prosthesis. Orthodontics can be used to extrude teeth prior to extraction, allowing correction of alveolar levels without bone grafting.
